The EMpowering Pregnant Women and people Receiving medications for opioid use disorder (EMPWR) mobile application is a free app to support pregnant and postpartum individuals taking buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder. The EMPWR app is intended to be used in conjunction with the EMPWR therapy program under the direction of a licensed mental health professional. EMPWR was developed by healthcare professionals at the Medical University of South Carolina and is being tested in research funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

The EMPWR app includes a medication tracking and reminder system to help users take their prescribed buprenorphine and provides feedback on their medication adherence. The app also includes education on using buprenorphine during pregnancy, perinatal health, and infant and parenting information, as well as coping skills, methods to improve sleep in pregnancy and after childbirth, and recovery and treatment resources.
